The Wellness & Fitness Director is a highly visible representative of the Storm Chasers mission and one of our champions ensuring our charitable impact in the community.
In this role, John will have the opportunity to deliver exceptional wellness sports programs and services to all ages. John’s position is directly responsible for the growth, development, and implementation of all community wellness and fitness programming including group exercise classes, sports camps, and afterschool enrichment sports, and more. John has been a high school teacher and wrestling coach for 23 years and counting. As a Head Coach, his teams have won over 400 matches, and they have won multiple County, Regional, and Tournament championships. Six times he has been named the Baltimore Sun or the Annapolis Capital Gazette Anne Arundel County Coach of the Year. As a competitor, John was twice a Pennsylvania All-State wrestler. He was a four-year starter at the Division I collegiate level and a Division I East Regional champion. John competed in the 1997 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships.
John has worked in the fitness industry for 16 years as a personal trainer, group fitness instructor, and strength and conditioning coach. Teaching, coaching athletes, and training people of all ages is what John loves. John's mission is to make people better. Better students. Better wrestlers. Better people through exercise. For him to do that, he is continually working on getting better. He says, "if I am not working to be better, I cannot adequately help others get better." Because of this, John is always reading, learning, and developing strategies and tools to be his best self. He consistently challenges himself because he knows it makes me better. John has run over 20 marathons and ultramarathons, has competed in dozens of CrossFit competitions, and has completed a 50-mile Ruck race. John continues to train and wrestle with high school and college athletes at 47 years old. He does these types of things because they make him a better coach, teacher, trainer, husband, and father to his two kids. John is the author of the “A Coach’s Manual: Everything You Need to Be a Successful Coach,” and the eBook “Strong Mind, Strong Body.” He writes a monthly column, “Writing for Wrestlers,” for the Wrestling Insider Newsmagazine (WIN) and has contributed articles to Intermatwrestling.com, Thought Catalog, MatBoss, and others.
